Characters
Trevor
The Man. The Myth. The Legend. At least in his own mind.
You and Trevor have been friends since the first grade, ever since he got you both into trouble for stealing all the brown crayons under the guise of a “freedom march.” Somehow, that wasn’t enough to scare either of you away, and you’ve been inseparable ever since.
Whether it was football, basketball, or any other sport you can think of, the two of you were always there together. Through victories, disasters, and countless questionable decisions, Trevor has remained a constant presence in your life.
After high school, Trevor even moved closer to your university despite not having the grades to attend it himself. Fortunately, academic success wasn’t required for what turned out to be his true calling. Against all odds, he’s become a top-notch carpenter and even helped design the interior of your apartment in the newly revitalized Park Street district.
Trevor wears confidence like a tailored suit. While he may not always be the smartest person in the room, he is almost certainly the most charismatic. Bold, fearless, and never shy about making a move, Trevor has a way of winning people over—whether they’re men, women, or anyone in between.
Amy
Amy first entered your life quite literally—you crashed into her while rushing away from what had already become a spectacularly embarrassing first day at university. What could have been just another disaster in a long list of bad moments instead became the beginning of a lasting friendship. Since that day, you and Amy have always been there for each other.
At one point, Amy dated Trevor, but the relationship never really took hold. More importantly, it never disrupted the dynamic of your friend group. Amy is bold, confident, and completely unapologetic about who she is. Her self-assurance gives her the freedom to do whatever she wants—and pursue whoever she wants—with very little concern for what others think.
Over the years, Amy has been many things: a trusted wingman, a fierce defender, a shoulder to cry on, and one of the most dependable people in your life. No matter what challenges have come your way, she’s rarely been far from your corner.
More than a few people have wondered how the two of you never crossed the line into something romantic. The truth is, you simply never did. Instead, you’ve built something just as rare: a lifelong friendship founded on trust, loyalty, and an understanding that doesn’t need romance to survive. Though admittedly, it doesn’t hurt that she’s easy on the eyes.
Matt
Matt first entered your orbit while relentlessly pursuing Amy during your university years. While his attempts at romance never quite worked out, the friendship that followed proved far more successful. What started as a failed chase eventually became a decade-long friendship. These days, Matt and Amy even share an apartment. Despite their many similarities, both insist they could never work as a couple. Somehow, however, their friends-with-benefits arrangement functions surprisingly well—at least by their standards.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Matt came to your university as part of an academic transfer program while pursuing a PhD in Medical Sciences. His academic credentials are impeccable, which makes it all the more amusing that he has a tendency to faint at the sight of blood. Fortunately, his career path has managed to avoid too many practical demonstrations.
Matt also carries a secret that only a select few people know: beneath the confident exterior lies an unapologetic nerd. Not the trendy kind—the genuine article. Back in the UK, he spent countless hours obsessing over movies, comic books, and anything remotely geeky. His early attempts at dating were so spectacularly unsuccessful that his father once arranged for him to lose his virginity with a distant cousin, a story you never miss an opportunity to remind him about.
Somewhere between boarding a plane and arriving in the United States, Matt underwent a remarkable transformation. The awkward movie buff who resembled Egon Spengler somehow emerged looking and acting more like Jude Law. The change was so dramatic that most people would never suspect the truth. Matt certainly hopes they never do.
Despite the confidence he projects, Matt still wrestles with the fear that people will discover what he sees as the “real” version of himself. He works hard to maintain the image he’s built, but every movie quote, comic reference, and enthusiastic geek-out moment reminds everyone that the old Matt is still very much alive beneath the surface.
Kim
Kim attended school with you and Trevor, though the three of you never really moved in the same circles. While you and Trevor spent most of your time focused on sports, girls, and whatever trouble happened to be available that week, Kim had entirely different interests—and he never felt the need to hide them.
Openly gay and unapologetically himself, Kim has a habit of turning every stereotype up to eleven. Whether he’s doing it to make uncomfortable people squirm or to poke fun at members of his own community who take themselves too seriously is anyone’s guess. Either way, it’s become a defining part of his personality. What some people see as theatrical, Kim simply calls being Kim.
The two of you didn’t really reconnect until years later when you were putting together your startup. By then, Kim had become a highly successful banker. What he actually does on a day-to-day basis remains something of a mystery to everyone in the friend group. When you were securing financing for your company, you happened to run into him at the same office building—despite the fact that he didn’t even work for the bank involved. It was one of those very “Kim” moments that somehow never received a proper explanation.
Since then, the two of you have met for coffee almost every Monday. Kim quickly became part of the group and has been there through every success, disaster, relationship, and crisis life has thrown your way. Charming, witty, and perpetually difficult to read, he’s become the closest thing your friend group has to its own Barney Stinson—though Kim would probably insist he does the role far better.
MC
This is you, the main character.
